I feel like you can't really be truthful as an artist and empathize with the human experience unless you know your truth, and you're not living a lie.

Before I cook, I always have to put on music that parents listened to while cooking. I remember waking up in the morning and seeing my dad making breakfast with music and cutting up the tomato and singing to it and just handling food with such care. So when I cook, I put on salsa, vallenato, cumbia, or anything that reminds me of Colombia.

I love making dishes that my mother used to make.

There are some days that I have to remind myself, and I have to give myself affirmations, and I have to go to yoga or do something nice for myself. I get nervous about putting myself out there, but I want to encourage others to use their voices, too.

People tell me to go back to my country, and I'm an American.

Since when is it good to separate a family?

As a kid, I felt like I had no voice, felt like I had no options, and that's what drove me to this really dark place.

I was voted Most Happy-Go-Lucky in high school. Can you believe that? I was crying every other day by myself, but I was voted Most Optimistic and Most Likely to Have Her Own Television Talk Show.

We need comprehensive immigration reform so that we're not creating this cycle of poverty and depression and everything that comes with separating a family.

When I've been asked in the past about my dream role, I always expressed how much I'd like to be a superhero.

I want to live in a country where we believe in helping each other, where we see where resources are lacking.

Even if you can't be an activist every day, when you can be, do it.

If you have money, donate it. If you have time, donate that time. If you have a story to tell, share that story. There's a list of things you can do, and even educating yourself is a form of revolution in my opinion.

I want us to all look at ourselves and look at our stories. It doesn't matter where you come from or what journeys you've taken. Your stories matter, and they're powerful.

Just sharing who you are - there's so much value in that.

Freedom has not always meant the same for everyone in this country.

I think it's always been sort of difficult for people of color to celebrate the Fourth of July and really understand what that means.

I am a proud American, regardless of the fact that my parents were separated from me forcefully.

We have to educate our communities about the immigration system and dispel the myths that have been fed to us. Immigration isn't going to go away. A wall isn't going to 'solve' the issue.

I know my family loves me, but the hardest part is to love myself.

I remember when I was younger, older folks would say to me, 'There are three things you don't talk about at a dinner party: religion, politics, and money.' But I think the truth is quite the opposite.

In my opinion, we're here to be happy; we're here to work hard; we're here to do the right thing; and we're here to save our planet. And I think that we can achieve it.

Fashion can be this mysterious thing that you can't explain.

I travel light. I think the most important thing is to be in a good mood and enjoy life, wherever you are.

Attitude is everything.

I wanted to be an independent woman, a woman who could pay for her bills, a woman who could run her own life - and I became that woman.

The wrap dress is the most traditional form of dressing: It's like a robe, it's like a kimono, it's like a toga. It doesn't have buttons or zippers. What made it different was that it was jersey; therefore, it was close to the body and it was a print.

The most important relationship you have in life is the one you have with yourself. And then after that, I'd say once you have that, it may be hard work, but you can actually design your life.

Simplicity and sexiness, that's what people want. At a price that's not outrageous.

Clarity is the most important thing. I can compare clarity to pruning in gardening. You know, you need to be clear. If you are not clear, nothing is going to happen. You have to be clear. Then you have to be confident about your vision. And after that, you just have to put a lot of work in.

There's design, and there's art. Good design is total harmony. There's no better designer than nature - if you look at a branch or a leaf, it's perfect. It's all function. Art is different. It's about emotion. It's about suffering and beauty - but mostly suffering!

My best friend is me, and I take good care of me.

Confidence. If you have it, you can make anything look good.

I always wanted to be a femme fatale. Even when I was a young girl, I never really wanted to be a girl. I wanted to be a woman.

When you get into a hotel room, you lock the door, and you know there is a secrecy, there is a luxury, there is fantasy. There is comfort. There is reassurance.

Insecurity is a waste of time.

Beauty is perfect in its imperfections, so you just have to go with the imperfections.

When you come to a hotel room, you want it to be grand, functional and beautiful. But you don't want things that are not useful. Sometimes you go to hotels and there are all these frames and pictures of people you don't know, and you end up hiding everything in the drawer, and then housekeeping come and put it out again.

I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but I knew the woman I wanted to become.

The important thing is to take your time and not get stressed.

Just don't go to a place where everything is too expensive... it'll put your husband in a bad mood.

When I was young, I lived like an old woman, and when I got old, I had to live like a young person.

Italy will always have the best food.

The older I get, the more impressed I am with women. I have yet to meet a woman who is not strong. They don't exist.

I think all races are represented in America much more than in many other places, but it's also nice to remind people about that ethnic mix. I would like to see more black models and women from different ethnic backgrounds, but I also think that when you are casting, you just choose the most beautiful girl you can find.

I get ideas about what's essential when packing my suitcase.

My son loves the Hotel du Cap, in the south of France.

Animals come from nature. They were not designed. All my inspiration comes from nature, whether it's an animal or the layout of bark or of a leaf. Sometimes my patterns are very bold, and you can barely see where they come from, but all the textures and all the prints come out of nature.

Do I believe in reincarnation? Well, let's say that I believe in karma. I think you make your own karma.

Go to a place where you're not going to be stressed, because a honeymoon itself can be a stressful thing.
