Mario Lemieux is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played with the National Hockey League's (NHL) Pittsburgh Penguins between 1984 and 2006 with breaks in between. He bought the Penguins for a pittance, and is currently the club's owner and chairman of the club. He is widely accepted as one of the best players of all time. He was gifted in all aspects of the game including, playing, scoring goals, handling the ball, and supported this with intangible skills such as, thought and anticipation. He led Pittsburgh to two consecutive Sandley Cups and a third under his ownership. He also led Team Canada to the Olympic gold medal, won the World Cup of Hockey, and the Canadian Cup. At the time of his retirement, he was the seventh NHL to set a total of 690 goals and 1,033 goals, with an impressive average of 0.754 goals per game. Lemieux's work suffered from health problems including spinal disc herniation and Hodgkin's lymphoma which limited him to 915 of 1,428 NHL games that could have forced him to retire twice from his career. He joined the Canadian Walk of Fame and Hockey Hall of Fame. His work is not just about records but of dedication and determination in the face of serious health problems.
