Thales of Miletus lived in ancient Greece. He was the first scientist in history. Thales sought patterns in nature to explain how the world worked rather than believe that everything happened only because the Greek god had ordered it. He took the place of superstition and science. He was the first person to use the available logative to obtain new results in Geometry and, in need of proof of detail, took the calculations and set them to a new, higher level. Everything we know about him was written hundreds of years after his life, for example by Aristotle. When we pronounce his name, thail-eez, we emphasize the first syllabus. There may be other scientists before Thales, but if they are, we don't know their names.
