Mahmoud Ahmadinejad excelled at school as a child. After the Islamic revolution of 1979, he became involved in politics. He served as mayor of Tehran before being elected President of Iran in 2005. His pursuit of the nuclear program and the Israeli counter terrorism program has led to conflict with the United States and much of Europe. His domestic and economic policies have led to greater equality and a higher standard of living, especially for poor Iranians, but sanctions imposed on Iran have retarded this progress.
