Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism, one of the oldest religions. Guru Nanak became the first Sikh Guru and his spiritual teachings laid the foundation for the formation of Sikhism. Considered a religious figure, Guru Nanak traveled throughout South Asia and the Middle East spreading his teachings. He also promoted monotheism and taught his followers to draw close to God by meditating on their various religious practices. Surprisingly, Guru Nanak did not support excessive sponsorship and asked his followers to live the life of a faithful homeowner. His teachings were not made in the form of 974 hymns, known as 'Guru Granth Sahib,' the sacred text of Sikhism. With more than 20 million followers, Sikhism is one of the most important religions in India.
