Gordon B. Hinckley was president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 12 years. He was a church leader for 46 years and led Mormonism during the worldwide expansion, dedicating 95 temples to the church. During his presidency, the church grew to include 12 million members worldwide. Hinckley had a popular personality that drew large crowds and helped the church's social relations. He appeared in “Larry King Live,” and “60 Minutes,” and directed the church's accessibility program during the Salt Lake City Olympics. Hinckley is responsible for making the church's genealogical library available to the public via the Internet. Because of his many achievements, George W. Bush awarded him the Medical Medal of Freedom in 2004.
