Charles Wendell Colson, ("Chuck"), American political and religious actor (born Oct. 16, 1931, Boston, Mass. - died April 21, 2012, Falls Church, Va.), Was a close political aide ( 1969-73) at US Pres. Richard Nixon has also been a respected figure after a campaign of "dirty tricks" developed to tarnish the image of the President's opponents, which has led to the disgrace of Watergate. He was also tried and convicted (1974) for obstructing justice at a covert event to cover up incidents that undermined the credibility of Pentagon commentator, Daniel Ellsberg (who in 1971 opened the New York Times Pentagon Papers). Colson had hired E. Howard Hunt (and others) to steal files from the psychiatrist's office in Ellsberg, and then distributed the alibis to the criminals who surrounded Washington.
