Pete Buttigieg had been a two-term mayor of South Bend, Indiana. A graduate of Harvard University and Oxford Rhodes Scholar, Buttigieg enrolled in the US Navy Reserve and became a lieutenant when he was sent to Afghanistan in 2014. made him young and became the first openly gay president in US history. Despite appearing as a candidate for the top election in the Democratic Alliance, Buttigieg launched his campaign in early March 2020.
